How it started
It started as a plan to buy a keg of beer, grill hamburgers, and celebrate the lives and legacies of Mike Duskin and Riley Stephens with their families......
With no start-up capital and little guidance on how to start such a venture, we relied heavily on the efforts of family members and teammates to plan, organize, and execute the benefit. In just 5 weeks, a small group of approximately 15 people raised money, garnered donations from the surrounding North Carolina communities of Southern Pines, Fayetteville, and Pinehurst, and as far reaching as Dallas, New York City, and Miami.
What started as a plan to buy a keg of beer, grill hamburgers, and celebrate the lives and legacies of Duskin and Stephens with their families, bolstered into a highly organized event, attended by nearly 1,000+ people annually and raising more than we could have ever imagined. Now the Beef and Beer is an annual staple in the Sandhills community and continues to grow in attendance and success each year.
